Wavelength NFT - A limited edition collection of 20 stunning art pieces. Each piece telling the multi-year story of a single surf break from across the United States (from Alaska to Hawaii to Puerto Rico). Each piece is the result of a generative-art computer algorithm that converts each break's historical wave telemetry into 100% unique pieces of art.
A delicate choreography between 1,300 ocean buoys from across the globe , 17 satellites orbiting the Earth, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Command and Data Acquisition (CDA) facility in Wallops, Virginia, and an advanced algorithm for transforming over 5 Million oceanographic telemetry signals into breathtaking pieces of art.
The scarcity of each piece is guaranteed by the Ethereum blockchain. The collection will be listed for auction on April 22 on OpenSea.IO to commemorate Earth Day 2021, and 10% of all profits will be donated to the Heal The Bay charity to offset the environmental impact of cryptocurrency mining.

The Wavelength NFT Project
Every 20 minutes, over 1,300 C-MAN buoys across the globe relay a sample of the latest oceanographic activity. Wind direction, water temperature, and wave height are among the data points collected and relayed to a network of 17 Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) in orbit around the earth.
Once the data is centralized, validated, archived, and distributed back out throughout the various prongs of the NOAA network, it is made accessible via API’s, free for hobbyists and scientists alike.
The data tells a story of the unique “signature” of the swells surging through each location, many of which feed into legendary surf breaks around the globe. Some of the swells are turbulent and chaotic. Others are placid and smooth. But each one illustrates a historical “fingerprint” that - when mapped through an algorithm - tells a visual story of the area.
When we distribute 10 years of “significant wave heights” - a statistical measurement of the average of the highest 1/3 of waves in a 20 minute sample - what we begin to reveal is a “fingerprint” of each swell and its slow evolution through history.
The snapshot of these top 20 surf swells across the US - from Alaska to Hawaii to Puerto Rico - are frozen in history. And as such, the characteristics of the wave plots will never change. Each are one-of-a-kind, like the art pieces that represent them.

A single composite portrait (all 20 pieces arranged in a portrait) will be auctioned off on Earth Day (April 22, 2021) for $5ETH.
